GEC STANDS FOR OPPORTUNITY
The story of Gambtoo English Classes begins 70 years ago and lives on today through our mission, dedication and commitment. Founded on the principle that by enlightening students and sharing what we learn, we make the world a better place.
Our singular vision is to help students become more marketable by coaching for entrance exams required for universities or placing them for top-notched universities in the world. During the late 1990s, Vinod Gambtoo took over the reign of the company management. While training students on an honorarium basis, he met with an ‘emergent opportunity’ - helping students study abroad. Bright Indian students struggled to get into the premium Indian schools then. He foresaw the situation getting worse from bad considering the increasing numbers of young students. Bolstered by the entrepreneurial spirit, he got inspired to establish a company dedicated to helping students get into universities abroad. This is how GEC International Study Centre (GEC) was born in 1998.
Ever since GEC was established, we have always scaled new heights of success and earned respect and love from students. To date, GEC has recruited more than 25,000 students at various institutions in countries, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. At the same time, we have counseled over 100,000 students in the last 20 years and trained over 15,000 students for English proficiency tests such as IELTS and TOEFL combined.
A feather in our cap! The world’s largest testing company, Educational Testing Services (ETS), approved GEC as a Certified Testing Administration Site (CTAS) in 2008. ETS is a frontrunner in testing English Language Ability for academic and settlement purposes. ETS has tested millions of exams across the globe. Today, GEC is authorized to administer GRE, TOEFL and TOEIC exam. In 2010, Pearson VUE authorized GEC as an approved testing center for their I.T. certification exams. To date, GEC prides of having facilitated more than 12,000 exams for both ETS and Pearson VUE.
GEC offers a variety of practice materials to help students prepare for various tests namely TOEFL, IELTS, PTE and CELPIP. The series of Masterpiece books include tips and techniques for students. These are bestselling books, just behind the books published by Cambridge University Press in India.

Founder
He researches on various challenges and dynamics of the industry time after time and ensures to pass that learning on to team members, stakeholders, students, and government departments. He has been invited on numerous occasions to discuss the important issues of student visa, immigration policies and decisions taken my stakeholders impacting the industry and people at large on television. He expresses his opinions without any fear or for any commercial gain by writing or speaking during various TV debates.
In 2015, he experienced that many Indian students had struggled to get the required score in entrance exams, such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CELPIP. Furthermore, he found that some students – they were absolutely brilliant though – were unable to write meaningful content for scholarships. This experience inspired him to write the academic material for them. There began a new journey of writing and publishing books on entrance exams. He has written five books on these topics and all of them are bestselling in India and elsewhere.
At the personal front, he believes in corporate social responsibility and working on charity assignments. He advocates and very much vocal on rights of animals, and volunteers on various drives for animal betterment. Because of his natural inclination and affection for animals, he wrote a consulting report in the form of a group assignment while studying for PEI Humane Society and won the reputed bursary of ‘Royal Commonwealth Society, UK’.
The journey is on. He strives to do something different and meaningful for the student community and animal betterment.
